People Listening to the Radio in X Year refers to a series of memes in which imagine people listening to music on the radio during important historic events such as the assassination of John F. Kennedy, with the broadcast being interrupted with news about these events. The memes are based on a viral YouTube sketch “How Rappers be when a trash feature ruins the whole song.”
On June 23rd, 2020, YouTuber RDCworld1 posted a comedy sketch “How Rappers be when a trash feature ruins the whole song.” In the sketch, a rapper and two members of his team are enjoying the rapper’s soon to be released song, nodding their head to the rhythm. When a poorly executed feature section comes in, the rapper and his assistants visibly stop enjoying the song and lose their smiles. The sketch received over 1.5 million views on YouTube in one month (shown below).
