Anime Silhouettes Challenge is a series of participatory fan art on TikTok which features a participant and their favorite anime character posing in silhouette. The trend, which typically uses the mix “Walking Back” by Lucas Brontk, began in July 2020.
On July 5th, TikToker annikin_ uploaded the first example of an Anime Silhouette Challenge video. The video featuring the sound clip “陸版抖音楠故原聲 – 凌呦★⊙v⊙★” anf the character Kuroo gained over 167,500 likes in 17 days (shown below).
On July 6th, 2020 TikToker frenchfrydust uploaded another variation of the challenge which included Tobio Kageyama (shown below, left). The video garnered over 58,100 likes in 16 days. On July 15th, TikToker prokuudina uploaded an example with the character Levi Ackerman and received over 14,700 likes in a week (shown below, center). On July 17th, TikToker romeorgr upload a video with the anime character Kaneki that acquired over 17,300 likes in five days (shown below, right). StayHipp published an article on the trend.
